This week’s reading is chapter 2 of Language Files, which is posted on the Readings page of the class website.
Also, Quiz #2 is now available. It’s open book and you have until 11:59pm this Friday to submit it. It covers the readings from this week and last week. You can study with others in the class, but do not share answers.

Read chapters 4 and 5 (pp.21–33) in David Crystal’s book, and chapter 11 (pp.124–127) in Rickerson & Hilton. These will be covered in next week’s quiz.

I know that this sounds like a lot of reading, but these books have very short chapters. It’s really only 20 pages in total. You can find these books on the Readings page, accessible with the password “linguist” (without the quotation marks).
In addition, you’ll find a topic that I created on the discussion board on Blackboard. Please post a reply in this thread to introduce yourself to me and the rest of the class. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all!
