By February 3rd, please read the following:

• Rickerson & Hilton, chapters 1, 2, and 14 (pp.7–15 and 62–66)
• Crystal, chapter 37 (pp.233–238)

I know that this sounds like a lot of reading, but these books have very short chapters. It’s really only 20 pages in total. You can find these books on the Readings page, accessible with the password “linguist” (without the quotation marks).

In addition, you’ll find a topic that I created on the discussion board on Blackboard. Please post a reply in this thread to introduce yourself to me and the rest of the class. I’m looking forward to getting to know you all!
